Tah The use of natural fibres in polymer composite applications has gained great attention over the last decade, due to weight, economic and environmental aspects. Processing textile reinforced composites in various lay-up, resin infusion or compression moulding techniques requires good reproduction of mould shape. Thus, this study is concerned with the analysis of deformation and draping behaviour of woven fabrics over single curvatures. Experimental investigations of draping several jute and glass fibre woven fabrics of varying densities over a standard circular disc have been performed. Draping behaviour was analysed using image processing techniques and MATLAB application. Further simulation of the draping patterns has been achieved using PamForm software. Good prediction of draping behaviour of woven textiles is accessible, but requires a set of preliminary experiments to well characterise the fabric in question. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Simulate the Dynamic Draping Behavior of Woven and Knitted Fabrics

In this article a practical mass-spring system was developed to simulate the draping of woven and knitted fabrics. The material properties important to fabric drape, including aerial density, tensile, shear, and bending properties were measured using the Kawabata Evaluation System and the experimental data were incorporated into the mass-spring model to simulate the dynamic draping behavior of ...

Study on Wicking Measurement in Thin Layer Textiles by Processing Digital Images

The purpose of this work is to assess and develop experimental techniques that allowwicking measurement over a wide range of textiles. Various kinds of fabrics, nonwoven layers and anelectro spinning nylon layer were used as the test materials. A syringe is used to drop a 0.02 g spot ofdistilled water on the sample and a digital camera to take pictures simultaneously. When the wickingprocess st...

Assessing of Fabric Appearance Changes Using Image Processing Techniques

This paper describes the use of image processing to measure lightness changes of fabric appearance. The lightness changes due to dyeing, washing and exposure to light treatments are studied. These properties are measured by using the changes in the intensity levels of the fabrics image and the L* obtained by a spectrophotometer. For each case, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is carded out and the...

Simulation of the mechanical behaviour of woven fabrics at the scale of fibers

A general approach to the mechanical behaviour of woven fabrics at the scale of individual fibers is proposed in this paper. In order to simulate the behaviour of samples of woven fabrics, all fibers constituting these samples are taken into account in the model, and particular attention is focused on the detection and modeling of contact-friction interactions occuring within the collection of ...

Investigating the Effect of Underlying Fabric on the Bagging Behaviour of Denim Fabrics (RESEARCH NOTE)

Underlying fabrics can change the appearance, function and quality of the garment, and also add so much longevity of the garment. Nowadays, with the increasing use of various types of fabrics in the garment industry, their resistance to bagging is of great importance with the aim of determining the effectiveness of textiles under various forces. The current paper investigated the effect of unde...
